Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and former Vice Chief of Staff at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. He holds an appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Yassir is Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and formerly Vice Chief of Staff at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. He holds an appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and is and Associate Program Director of the Detroit Medical Center - Wayne State Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He also has an appointment at the Tufts Medical Center’s Floating Hospital for Children, where he was previously Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the American Orthopaedic Association. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Tufts Affiliated Hospitals program in Boston, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of San Diego.
His areas of clinical interest include the treatment of clubfeet, spinal deformities, and trauma. He has served on several national committees, including the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America’s Quality, Safety, and Value Committee, their committee on Children’s Orthopaedics in Underserved Regions, the AAOS Evaluation Committee, and the US News and World Report Pediatric Orthopedic Committee.
He graduated from Columbia University’s School of Engineering with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and studied medicine at the State University of New York’s Downstate Medical Center. He also completed a Masters in Health Care Management at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Yassir has been voted one of Hour Magazine’s top doctors every year for the past 9 years. At the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Dr. Yassir oversaw the expansion to the largest pediatric group in the state of Michigan, a vaunted educational program for residents, and is the course director of an annual pediatric orthopaedic course for pediatricians.
Dr. Yassir has extensive medical legal experience for both plaintiff and defendant in medical malpractice cases. He also has provided expert testimony in medical device patent infringement cases, helping achieve a substantial judgement for the inventor. He is active in volunteer work, performing annual trips to perform surgery and resident education in the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem through the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
